Wipeout & Injury

Damn.  I went away for the weekend to a great place with some great people and was really looking forward to the experience.  From a non-running perspective, it's always a great weekend with this crowd, and the place is one of my favorite places on the whole planet.  It's just magic.  And, of the 4 couples that were there, 6 of them are runners !!!  I figured we'd be doing a group run each day, on some really hilly scenic roads around a lake...practically runner's heaven.  Well....way lead on to way ( oblique reference to Robert Frost, my favorite poet ) and Saturday we didn't get out until late.  It was dark and I ended up putting my foot down half on and half off the edge of the pavement, rolled the ankle, and landed face first on the street.  Cut and bruised my  knee, twisted my ankle, and broke 3 teeth.   On the bright side, if you have to get injurred, that was the crowd to do it with as they were super helpful and supportive, and that's the location to do it in, because it's a very positive happy place.  The bummer is that now I have to go spend more time and money than I'd like to at a dentist, and can't run for a while.  I'm not sure how long I'll be laid up yet.  The injury happened Saturday.  Today's monday and I've made huge improvements, but I still get twinges of pain in the ankle.    I iced it, wrapped it and elevated it for most of the night after the run, and I'm amazed at how little swelling there was and the decrease in pain over night.  Prompt treatment really does make a big difference.  I'm not always good about that sort of thing but these folks were constantly hounding me to stay off it, elevate it, ice it etc.  I had signed up for a 5 mile race on Thanksgiving morning and I'm not sure if I'll be able to do that or not at this point.  I was sort of looking forward to another data point in my training that I could plug into one of those online marathon pace calculators, but even if I do run, I suspect I'll be kind of tentative and hold back a bit.  We'll have to wait and see.   So....not as much running to write about in the next few days, but I'll keep you all interested with something.  If I can't come up with anything else, I can always just bitch about my mother in law who is staying with us for a few weeks.  There's no shortage of material there.

just don't stop running.....
